Bordertown Hotel has called for community to understand rises in prices of menu products as they adjust to unwavering expensive costs.
Australians are subject to a rise in price for general produce and goods following the height of COVID-19 and this rise has affected businesses of all sizes.
Relying on freight transportation, Bordertown Hotel has updated their prices to accommodate for the costly expense.
General Manager, Tom Duka noted that the business and the community are not too different as both are combating expensive living.
"It's been going on for a while now," Mr Duka said.
"I think everyone is effected by it to the same extend... just doing your grocery shop or paying your bill, everyone has had the same issues.
Mr Duka explained that due to the remote location of Bordertown compared to larger cities such as Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne, purchasing through freight is vital and there are not enough drivers on the road.
"Fresh produce price has gone up incredibly, freight has gone up due to fuel prices, electricity too," Mr Duka said.
Diesel prices in the region maintain a price above $2 per litre, with some outlets in north South Australia charging upwards of $3 per litre.
Official statistics from the Bureau of Resource and Energy Economics has listed Australia as among the lowest diesel and fuel prices in the OECD.
"Locals just keep saying 'oh that went up, not this is going up," Mr Duka said.
"Everyone is really feeling the pinch ... nobody can escape the price rise."
With job opportunities waiting to be filled in regional towns around Australia, the high demand promotes a higher price for product and produce delivery.
"Hopefully in the not too distant future we will see fruit and vegetable prices come back down to somewhere near normal," Mr Duka said.
"I don't think it will drop down again overnight, but it would be good for everyone if costs headed back to where it was.
I doubt it will ever get back to the original normal but we can hope."
Mr Duka and the Bordertown Hotel team has asked the community to respect probable price rises in menu items for local businesses as they combat rising costs themselves.
