A beloved dance hall event is returning to Bordertown to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
On July 22, the Bordertown Dance Club will be hosting its annual Flying Doctors fundraiser at the Bordertown Civic Centre.
Bordertown Dance Club member Don Rosser said people of all ages and dancing skills are invited to attend the night, which will feature social ballroom dancing.
"A good fun night out, we have had people who have never been before, have never been on a dance floor and they said they thoroughly enjoyed the night," he said.
"Some people don't do any dancing, but they are quite welcome to come along. Heated hall so there is no problem sitting there shivering."
The event will mark a return to normalcy for the club, which has had to scale back its operations for the past two years due to COVID-19.
Bordertown Dance Club draws in members from across the region, including western Victoria, and would regularly host dances in towns in the Tatiara and Wimmera areas.
All funds raised from the event will be donated towards the Tatiara RFDS Support Group.
Mr Rosser said in 2019, the support group raised more than $50,000 from combined fundraising events across Tatiara.
"There are other fundraising activities. RFDS has a shop selling all sorts of stuff in Keith. They also have a garage sale once a month. The girls in Bordertown have certain days and raffles. The golf club has a farmer's day and they get substantial donations from that," he said.
Mr Rosser said he took up the cause to support the Royal Flying Doctors Service after he was treated by them years ago.
"I had a situation a couple of years ago where I used flying doctors. Medical emergency and flew out of Keith to Adelaide. Another club member, our vice-president had one of their family members flown to Adelaide out of Bordertown," he said.
"We are all in favour of supporting the doctors."
The RFDS event will be on Friday, July 22 at the Bordertown Civic Centre. Doors will open at 7pm.
Tickets will be $10 per head and $5 for teenagers. BYO food and drink.
