A dedicated group of volunteers from the Tatiara district has handed over a significant donation of $50,000 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Central Operations.

The Tatiara RFDS Support Group has raised funds for the important organisation since 2000, and have been able to continue their high-level of support, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past year, the group has raised funds through sales from the Keith Op Shop, ram sales, garage sales, donation tins and other various generous community donations.

Tatiara RFDS Support Group President Grid Hubl said Royal Flying Doctor Service is vital for people living in the South East

"The Flying Doctor lands in the South East at least twice a day and reaches more than 15 patients a day across South Australia," she said.

"We're proud to show our support for an organisation that makes a big difference in our local community."

Funds raised by the Tatiara RFDS Support Group go towards the purchase and fit-out of RFDS aircraft and to cover the shortfall in operational costs within Central Operations.

RFDS volunteer fundraising specialist Lindy Allchurch said the group's massive donation has allowed them to reach an exciting milestone.

"This year's donation takes the group's total contribution to the Flying Doctor to over $750,000 since it began fundraising in 2000," Ms Allchurch said.

"On behalf of everyone at RFDS, we thank our Tatiara RFDS Support Group for their outstanding service to their local community."
