Changes to the Carol Murray Children's Centre's parking arrangements will provide residents with increased safety when they drop of their children.
Tatiara District Council received a request from the child care centre to upgrade the lack of parking options on Dinning Terrace.
Director of infrastructure and operations Aaron Hillier said the child care centre has undertaken some changes over the past year, changing the location of its entrance.
"During Covid-19, the entrance to the Carol Murray Children's Centre was changed from the carpark located off DeCourcey Street to Dinning Terrace to minimise foot traffic within the centre," Mr Hillier said.
"After several months with this change, the centre has decided to make the entrance off Dinning Terrace permanent."
The decision to change the entrance has been a major contributor in the push to upgrade the child care centre's parking arrangements, with changes needing to be made to accommodate the change.
"Subsequently, council has received a request to install line marking and a loading zone on Dinning Terrace. Currently, there are no parking controls or line marking on Dining Terrace," Mr Hillier said.
Mr Hillier said changing the location of the entrance has seen a sizeable increase in vehicles parking on the Dinning Terrace.
He explained that the lack of parking controls increased safety risks to both pedestrian and motorists, but the proposed parking upgrades should benefit users of the road.
"Council staff have prepared a parking plan which includes the installation of line marking and a 15 minute parking zone from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday," Mr Hillier said.
The plan has been provided to the governing council of the Carol Murray Children's Centre for comment, with the members stating they were in favour of the proposed parking arrangements.
Tatiara District Council will now work towards establishing the parking zones on Dinning Terrace.
