The Lions Club of Goolwa recently had the honour of hosting the District 201C2 Youth of the Year 2021 Final, held at the Goolwa Bowling Club on Sunday, March 28.
More than 40 people from across the state attended the event, and this year's entrants were Annie Aldridge of Lucindale, Cameron Dixon of Berri, Amelia Henry of Penola, Ella Jones of Naracoorte, Connor Perry of Keith and Georgia Winter of Penola.
Throughout the morning, entrants were individually interviewed by a panel of judges, before the Goolwa Lions provided a lunch.
A public speaking session was then held, with entrants performing two-minute speeches based on impromptu questions, followed by five-minute prepared speeches.
Each youth was extremely impressive, making the judging tough. After much deliberation, Connor Perry (Keith Lions) was announced as the winner.
Runner up was Cameron Dixon (Berry Lions), and second runner up was Annie Aldridge (Lucindale Lions).
All three place-getters will now go on to the C2 District State Finals to be held on Sunday, April 18 at Golden Grove High School in Adelaide, hosted by the Lions Club of Adelaide.
A Lions Club of Goolwa spokesperson congratulated all entrants and thanked all those who worked on the event, including DYof Y Chairman Wilf Nitschke and Lion Kath Sargent.
