SeaLink understands the state government this week will seek expressions of interest for the KI ferry route.

SA general manager Peter Abbott said tendering was a long-term process and his company's licence to operate continued until 2024.

"SeaLink has served Kangaroo Island for 30 years and we hope to continue that long-term commitment," Mr Abbott said.

Repair works at the Cape Jervis ferry terminal by the state government's Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) saw new passenger gantry installed.

Work will then shift repairs to the Penneshaw ferry wharf.
