South East residents encouraged to capture our 'unique' landscape

Photography has the ability to capture a stunning moment in time and allow the photographer to share their work to a wider audience.

The South East has a multitude of extraordinary natural landscapes, and Natural Resources South East are encouraging the region's many photographers to take part in their photo competition.

"This year's theme is 'Life in our Landscape', celebrating the connectivity of each element of our local landscape, and why our region is an amazing place to work, live and explore," they said.

They stated that although the South East is diverse, the landscape is intrinsically connected.

From the soil that forms a base for produce and habitat, the native plants and wildlife that call our region home, to the local communities that rely on healthy landscapes for thriving production, the area is special.

With so many unique photogenic photo opportunities for residents to capture in their own backyard, the image should tell a bit about the person taking it.

"Your entry should tell us something about what it's like to live where you are, and do what you do," they said.

"We want to see the South East landscape from your perspective."

There are two sections, with entries allowed in adult and under 18 age groups.

The first section is 'Still Photography', and each entry must be accompanied by the official entry form with entrant's name, email, address and contact numbers.

It must also contain an age if entering the junior section, a title and a short description of the photo (max. 50 words) - location, action occurring, significance, etc.

The second section is 'Social Media', and entries can be made by posting to Facebook or Instagram and tagging the photo with @yournrse.

Entrants can also use the hashtag #lifeinourlandscape2020 and #aglifese2020 if they are entering the image in the 'Agriculture in our Landscape' section.

They must also have a public profile so that photos are accessible.

The winner of the adult age group will receive a multi parks pass to national parks in South Australia valued at $90, and a $100 voucher for photo processing or equipment.

Winning the under 18 age group will result in the entrant receiving a $100 voucher for photo processing or equipment, and a 12 month subscription to 'Australian Geographic' magazine valued at $60.

There a few general rules for the competition, with all entries needing to be received by 11pm on June 30. Any mailed entries can be postmarked on or prior to June 30 June.

Entries can be emailed to: dew.naturalresourcesSE@sa.gov.au, or mailed to Natural Resources South East, PO Box 1046, Mount Gambier SA 5290.
