LIVING THE DREAM: Bordertown's Paula Blackwell was awarded the status of 'Fellow of Certified Practicing Accountant' at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on May 3.

Blackwell Accounting Solutions will host a morning tea on June 28, as it celebrates five years since first opening its doors.

Business owner Paula Blackwell said she will use the upcoming event as a chance for people to celebrate.

"There have been a couple a sad and horrible things that have happened in the area in recent times, so the event will allow locals to come together and celebrate," Paula said.

Paula has been "overwhelmed" with the support that she has received from the community over the journey.

The company, apart from providing a helpful service to the community, has been heavily involved in countless causes.

"The company is the drop-off point for 'Share the Dignity' and the 'Uplift Project'. We don't just supply a professional service to the community, we also make sure we give back where we can," Paula said.

Earlier this year, Paula was given the status of 'Fellow of Certified Practicing Accountant Australia' (FCPA), something she has aspired to achieve from a young age.

"I started working in an accounting firm when I was 17 and one of the first accountants I met was an FCPA. I then said to my dad that I am going to be one of them one day," Paula said.

To become an FCPA, individuals must have at least 15 years' full-time work experience in accounting, finance or business, including at least five years in an executive position or as a public accountant.

Even after officially being recognised as an FCPA, Paula said the news still hasn't "sunk in yet".

"I found out about the honour back in January and I still have moments where I get tears in my eyes, it's pretty awesome," Paula said.

CPA Australia also praised her for reaching a significant milestone in her life.

"Reaching this significant milestone is a testament your hard work and dedication as a finance, accounting and business professional, and you should be enormously proud," they said.

Paula said she hasn't got to where she is today without the support from countless loved ones.

"I couldn't have done any of this without my family. I have worked with some amazing people over the last 15-20 years," Paula said.
