Success for Dolphins at country champs

The Dolphins Amateur Swimming Club attended the 2018 Country Championships held in Broken Hill from January 5-8 in extremely hot conditions.

The senior coach for the championships Libby Thornton was well supported by team manager Vanessa Schwarz throughout the meet.

The eight swimmers representing the Dolphins were Caitlin Kupke, Zoe Hawker, Imogen Dickinson, Jess Hawker, Ruby Schwarz, Alexis Hawker and Harry Schwarz. Team captain for the weekend was Gabby Hodges.

Due to extreme heat conditions (well over 38C each day), all events were run as timed finals.

Harry Schwarz, Jess Hawker and Zoe Hawker all gained top 8 positions with Zoe claiming a bronze in the 15 years 50 metre Butterfly.

The swim of the meet was awarded to Alexis Hawker for a nine second PB in the 100 metre Breastroke.

Swimming SA’s best team person for the meet was awarded to Gabby Hodges.

Next year the Country Championships will be held in Port Pirie. 2019 will also see the introduction of a regional short course championships event.

Dolphin swimmers will continue training in preparation for the next club time trial on January 28 and Dolphins Open Carnival on February 18.
