South East doctor Sarah Willoughby has been awarded with a fellowship to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
The fellowship gives Dr Willoughby recognition as a fully qualified primary care specialist.
While it is possible to work as a GP without the fellowship, it is a standard of excellence in the field of general practitioners.
Dr Willoughby is excited to now be a fully qualified specialist.
“I am proud to join the many qualified GPs who are already working in the South East.
“We are all committed to ongoing training and learning so we can continue to provide the best possible care to our patients,” Dr Willoughby said.
The fellowship was achieved following four years of study after medical school and intern year.
During her training Dr Willoughby worked in Millicent including covering emergency and inpatient care at the hospital while she attended workshops and underwent extra education.
After successfully completing her two written examinations as well as the practical "OSCE" last year, she was officially awarded a fellowship earlier this year.
The annual fellowship ceremony was held at the Adelaide Town Hall in September and was attended by just over 100 new fellows and their families.
Dr Willoughby now works in Padthaway every Monday, Lucindale every Tuesday, and spends the rest of the week in Millicent consulting.
“I enjoy the travel and meeting the people of the region where I have chosen to stay,” she said.
