Gumtree Quilters will be hosting their 2017 Quilt Exhibition at the Tatiara Civic Centre from Friday October 20 till Sunday October 22.
It’s the 11th exhibition for the group which began in 1996. President Pat Groocock said there will be over 100 quilts on display made by the 45 members and world renowned quilter Lessa Siegele who will officially open the exhibition at 1pm on Friday.
Gumtree Quilters are honoured to have such a talented high profile lady open their exhibition. Lessa has been quilting for almost 50 years and for over 45 years she has used her extraordinary talents to teach quilting groups like Gumtree Quilters and groups around Australia and overseas.
Her skills are highly acclaimed and in recognition of her outstanding contribution to quilting in Australia she was recently awarded the Rajah Award which is the highest accolade an Australian quilter can receive. Some of her magnificent quilts will be on display at the exhibition.
The quilts on display have taken some Gumtree members over two years to complete and planning the exhibition has taken over 12 months.
During the three days of the exhibition, the public can call in for lunch, morning and afternoon tea. They can view the quilt display and shop at the quilt shops which will be in attendance from Victoria and South Australia.
The Gumtree Quilters will also be raffling a colourful quilt to support the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
The exhibition will be open from 10am to 4pm. Admission cost $5 for adults, $3 for students and children under 12 are free.
