Primary kids loved the wonky donkey

NEW Zealand author and musician Craig Smith entertained Bordertown and Mundulla Primary School students recently as part of his three week tour of Australia.

The performance was held at the Tatiara Civic Centre hall on August 13, in association with the Bordertown library.

Performing in front of over 200 children, Craig played some of his greatest hits he had compiled over seven years like his most famous "The Wonky Donkey" with his performing partner Margaret Amore.

Craig's tour includes Queensland, SA and Victoria, performing at libraries and at schools.

"The shows are bigger crowds, some are up to 800 kids, but some are only 50-60 kids," Craig said.

Asked what changed him from performing folk and blues music, he said it took a rainy day and family influence to realise his natural talent to entertain and then write for kids.

"Kids in the family would ask me to play music and then I released "The Wonky Donky" which won New Zealand's Children Song of the Year.

"I then turned it into a book and it won Children's Choice Book of The Year in New Zealand.
