Councillor David Edwards was elected as the new Tatiara Deputy Mayor at yesterday's council meeting.

Councillor David Edwards is the new Tatiara district deputy mayor after he was elected to the position at yesterday’s council meeting.

Cr Edwards was elected as a councillor in November 2010 before taking the role of administration and finance committee chairman from November 2013 until November 2015.

Cr Edwards takes over from previous deputy Cr Robert Mock who has held the position for the past three years.

“It’s very exciting, I’m looking forward to helping out (mayor) Graham (Excell) wherever possible over the next 12 months,” Cr Edwards said.

The change comes after a motion was carried in 2014 that the deputy mayor and committee chairs were to be elected on a yearly basis.

A secret ballot was required to determine the deputy position after Cr Edwards was nominated against Cr Mock.

Tatiara mayor Mr Excell publicly thanked Cr Mock for his efforts in being his deputy for the past three years.

There was also a complete changing of the guard as all three council committee’s chairpersons were newly elected.

The three major committees, namely administration and finance, engineering and development and strategic planning must be comprised of all members of council including the mayor.

Cr Ken McInerney moves on from his role as chair of the admin and finance committee and Liz Goossens steps into the role.

Cr Miles Hanneman was elected as engineering and development chairman and takes over from Cr Jamie Jackson.

Cr Maureen Oliver replaces Cr Goossens as development and strategic planning chair.
