PERFECT weather provided the most perfect moments and memories for this year’s Australia Day Ceremony in Bordertown’s Tolmer Park.
An outstanding attendance of more than 400 people joined in celebration and recognition of the many hours of volunteer work by the four citizens awarded.
Awards were presented for the Citizens of the Year to Tracey Grosser, Winsome Hunt and Marjorie Badman.
Amy Penniment received the Youth Citizen of the Year award, while the Andy Caldecott Memorial and Rotary Blokes Night Out were selected for the Events of the Year.
Community members kicked the day off with an early breakfast, followed by the the day’s opening by Rotarian Chris Steer, who introduced the Scouts and Guides to raise the Australian flag.
All stood and participated in the singing of “Advance Australia Fair.”
The Australia Day Ambassador and New Zealand immigrant Bruce Macky proclaimed his beliefs to the true meaning of being an Australian.
“If you put in to an Australian community, the community will give back to you,” he said.
“My wife and I fell in love with Adelaide, we loved Adelaide so much that we became Australian citizens in 1984.”
