Magnificent machines for simple tasks

A photography studio has set a new record in convenience by devising a 114* step process to take a photo.

It 's a Rube Goldberg Machine. Such machines are comically over-engineered to perform a single, mundane task.

The machines are named in honour of cartoonist Rube Goldberg, who drew a number of cartoons featuring convoluted mechanisms for performing simple tasks.

One of the more popular examples comes from those Kings of the Viral Video Clip, US band OK Go.

There's also a Guinness World Record for most steps successfully completed by such a machine, the current holder of which is this Big Bang machine from Purdue University.

*Estimate. What, I'm actually going to sit down and count the number of steps? Pfff.
